Astro Camp as popular as ever this year

YMCA Camp Eberhart’s Astro Camp is as popular as ever this year.

The camp is for kids ages 9 through 15, though it has been around since the 60s during the first race to the moon.

Kids are able to work with equipment, practicing skills on seeking out things like bright stars, aiming and focusing, and looking for deep sky objects such as star clusters.

Darren Drake, resident astronomer at the camp, actually lives on the campgrounds during the summer months, and says he has been coming back since 2006, teaching kids and offering them the opportunity to see things that they have only read about.

And, many campers have returned as counselors on the Astro Staff, giving back to the next generation of astronomers.
