Elkhart to revisit homeless camping ordinance

Elkhart is revisiting a homeless camping ordinance.
This comes in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling in June that supported an Oregon town’s right to punish people for camping on public property.
The decision prompted Elkhart to bring back an ordinance that failed last year after facing community opposition.
The council will hold the second and third readings of the proposed ordinance, along with public comments, at its next meeting on August 19.

Pass the ordinance. Homelessness is partly because of a mental problem. Thankfully it gets very cold her for about half the year so homelessness is not the overwhelming problem it is in Kalifornia. At the very least it is trespass on someone else’s property or on public property. Usually drugs and violence come along with these camps.
