BCHD spreading awareness of breastfeeding benefits

The Berrien County Health Department is spreading a message about the benefits of breastfeeding babies.

August is National Breastfeeding Month, and the Health Department’s breastfeeding peer counselor Tami LeVallee is looking to let new mothers know about the benefits that breast milk provides for babies.

She says breast milk can help prevent things like SIDS, diabetes, certain types of cancers, high cholesterol and even allergies.

The Health Department is working to set up a breastfeeding support group and will be releasing information soon. However, mothers searching for breastfeeding support can contact the Berrien County Health Department.
