The Berrien County Board of Commissioners accepted grant money to keep running specialty courts.

The board accepted a total of $386,000 in grants for the Sobriety Court, the Drug Treatment Court, the Mental Health Court and the Swift and Sure Sanctions Probation Program.

Each court aims to get criminal offenders the help they need to address underlying programs that led them to the system.

According to WSJM, each program has brought significant change and has helped reduce the number of inmates at the Berrien County Jail.
