A Wakarusa man lost his life after a crash at the intersection of County Road 17 and State Road 120.

The collision took place around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12, when a 2019 Chevrolet Trax, driven by a 29-year-old Elkhart woman was heading southbound on CR 17 in the left turn lane. According to authorities, she failed to yield the right of way and collided head-on with a 2011 Kawasaki motorcycle driven by Joseph Klein, 61, of Wakarusa, who was traveling northbound.

Klein, who was wearing a helmet, sustained serious internal injuries and was transported to Elkhart General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Gunter, who was not injured, was cited for failing to yield the right of way and lacking insurance.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office and the Elkhart County Coroner’s Office are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
