A shooting incident near West 7th Street and Grant Avenue led to the arrest of a 47-year-old man Saturday evening, according to police.
The LaPorte County Regional Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting gunfire at approximately 7:29 p.m. on November 16. Officers arriving at the scene found evidence of a dispute that escalated to gunfire.
Police say Milo Denwiddie, 47, argued with a 25-year-old female acquaintance before she left his home and got into a vehicle driven by another adult male, with a small child also inside. As the vehicle pulled away, gunshots were exchanged between the driver and Denwiddie. No injuries were reported.
Officers recovered several pieces of evidence, including shell casings, a handgun, and photos of damage to the residence. Investigators later determined the handgun used by Denwiddie had been reported stolen in Indianapolis and that Denwiddie was prohibited from owning a firearm.
Denwiddie was arrested on charges of being a serious violent felon in possession of a firearm, criminal recklessness, and theft of a firearm.
