Law enforcement agencies struck a major blow against illegal drug manufacturing this week, dismantling a narcotics operation and seizing a functioning drug lab at a Michigan City residence.

On December 5, the LaPorte County Drug Task Force, Michigan City Police, and Indiana State Police executed a search warrant at 109 Earl Road following a two-month investigation. Inside, officers discovered a fully operational lab suspected of producing dimethyltryptamine (DMT), a hallucinogenic Schedule I controlled substance. Authorities also seized a cache of illegal substances and manufacturing materials.

William Jarrod Riser, 48, of Michigan City, was arrested at the scene. He faces charges of manufacturing a Schedule I controlled substance and possession of methamphetamine. Riser is being held on a $15,000 cash-only bond and is scheduled for an initial court appearance on December 10.

“This investigation highlights the dangers posed by clandestine drug operations,” officials said in a statement. They urged residents with information on criminal activity to contact the LaPorte County Drug Task Force at 219-873-1488 or via social media.
