A man accused of stealing a car has pleaded guilty to the crime.

Elkhart police were dispatched to Faith Mission for the vehicle theft on October 31 when they were provided surveillance video, leading to Terrance Smith being found and arrested.

The Goshen News says Smith reportedly told police that he was picked up by a friend in South Bend and they went to McDonald’s, but he said when the friend exited the vehicle, Smith began driving the car around and planned to pick him up later.

He reportedly said he did not realize the vehicle was stolen.

Smith has pleaded guilty to auto theft, and his sentencing is scheduled for February 20.
