A Dowagiac man has been sentenced to jail and probation after assaulting a woman and police.

Jason Keen pleaded no contest to resisting and obstructing police as well as assault and battery for an incident that happened in September. Witnesses say Keen punched a woman in the face after she accused him of parking too close to her car.

When Keen was taken to the hospital, he allegedly spit and kicked the officers and a paramedic while refusing to walk inside.

Leader Publications states that Keen has a history of violence, with 15 prior misdemeanors, many of which were from assaultive incidents.

He was sentenced to 270 days in jail, two years on probation and over $3,300 in fines and costs.
