Michigan ranks 20th for most deadly motorcycle crashes

As exhilarating as it may be, riding a motorcycle has become increasingly dangerous in recent years and according to the latest LendingTree study, fatal motorcycle crashes have risen for five consecutive years – up more than 26 percent.
The number rose from 4,945 in 2019 to 6,242 in 2023 – the highest in the study’s analyzed period, which also suggests nearly 2 in 5 fatal motorcycle crashes involve either alcohol or speeding.
In states without helmet use laws, motorcycles were involved in 26 percent of all fatal crashes, compared to just 13 percent in states with universal helmet use laws.
Michigan ranked 20th in the nation for deadly motorcycle crashes. Indiana ranked 26th.

When you’re holding handlebars, everyone with a steering wheel is out to kill you.

The helmet statistics are meaningless. What % of those deaths are in warmer states where the bikers are out all year long instead of just one season? Location will steer the data a lot more than helmets.

Helmets aren’t all they are cracked up to be, either. Check out DOT or SNELL certification methodology.
