A gunshot detection system led officers to a Michigan City apartment complex after shots were fired near 403 Chicago Street.
Officers arrived on the scene, around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 1, and as one of the officers walked through the area, a green laser sighting was observed from the upper window of an apartment in the 400 block of Chicago Avenue. Moments later, a gunshot was fired from that window.
A perimeter was quickly established around the building, and authorities obtained a search warrant.
SWAT teams executed a tactical entry into the apartment, securing the scene and conducting a thorough search. Two handguns, including one equipped with a green laser sight, along with two rifles and ammunition, were recovered.
Following interviews with the occupants, Lennon Houghtaling, 19, and Ryder Lechtanski, 18,were identified as the individuals responsible for the gunfire. Houghtaling, a resident of the apartment, and Lechtanski, a Michigan City resident, were arrested on probable cause for Criminal Recklessness.
Bond for both suspects was set at $15,000 cash only.
