The Michigan City Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit launched an aggressive effort over Memorial Day weekend, focusing on violent crime and street-level disruptions and the results have been released. Working closely with the Patrol Division, the CSU executed search warrants, seized firearms and drugs, and made significant arrests tied to violent criminal activity.
In just a few days, the unit initiated over 20 proactive cases, resulting in 17 arrests, the execution of three search warrants, and the confiscation of nine firearms. Officers also seized cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana, disrupting drug distribution networks and removing immediate threats to community safety.
“This unit was created with a very clear mission: to target the drivers of violent crime in our community,” said Michigan City Police Chief Marty Corley. “The results we saw over the holiday weekend are a direct reflection of focused policing, smart resource deployment, and strong teamwork between our specialized unit and patrol officers. We’re not just reacting-we’re staying ahead of the violence.”
In addition to enforcement, the CSU actively engaged with residents to reinforce the department’s commitment to both public safety and community relations.
As the summer progresses, the Crime Suppression Unit will remain a visible presence in Michigan City, continuing efforts to reduce violence, hold offenders accountable, and support local neighborhoods.
Anyone with information about criminal activity is encouraged to contact the CSU at 219-873-1488 or through social media. Police and public health officials also warn that drug supply disruptions can increase the overdose risk for individuals with active substance use. For treatment options, individuals can dial “988” or visit www.findtreatment.gov. The Overdose Prevention Hotline is available at 877-696-1996.
