Indiana’s new tobacco tax to begin July 1

If you smoke, packs of cigarettes will go up by a dollar on July 1st.
This is Indiana’s first tobacco tax hike in nearly 20 years, doubling the tax to two dollars per pack.
The increase also applies to all other tobacco products, including vapes and chewing tobacco.
Indiana lawmakers approved this tax, estimated to generate an additional $400 million annually, to help offset a state budget deficit.

Why should only smokers have to make up the state budget deficit? Does not seem fair to me!!! And yes I’m a smoker, leave your crappy remarks to yourself!!!

Keep it fair then and raise the alcohol tax too!! So many things they could choose to pad their pockets with. This governor will be out after this useless term.

Sin taxes are abhorrent and should be abolished. If you want to control behavior, use the law and not the tax code.
