Rokita claims Monroe County ignored ICE request to hold illegal immigrant

Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita says a man arrested for attempted rape a second time in Bloomington is an undocumented immigrant and that the Monroe County sheriff’s office ignored a request from immigration officials to hold him until he could be deported.
The sheriff’s office denies receiving any such request from ICE. Manuel Lopez Lopez, 39, was arrested and charged with attempted rape, criminal confinement, and battery causing bodily injury after an incident on a walking trail on July 2.
This arrest came just months after Lopez reached a plea deal in a separate attempted rape case from last summer.
