Two people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a fiery crash between their moped and a car in Elkhart.

It happened just before 12 pm. on Friday, Aug. 1, on Johnson Street, near Baldwin, north of the dam.

Police credit bystanders for pulling the people on the moped away from the crash, as both the vehicle and the moped became engulfed in flames.

The 57-year-old man operating the moped suffered critical injuries. His 32-year-old male passenger was treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The 25-year-old woman driving the car was able to get out with her son before the fire.
