The South Bend Police Department and Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate an incident that resulted in the discovery of two deceased individuals in South Bend this weekend.
On Sunday, Aug. 17, around 1 p.m., South Bend Police were contacted by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office to assist with a welfare check on an individual from Elkhart County whose last known location was believed to be in the area of Pulaski Street and Indiana Avenue in South Bend.
Officers then went to that location and ultimately found a male and female unresponsive in a vehicle.
Both were suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and were declared deceased. The male’s injuries appear to be self-inflicted.
Both identities are being withheld pending next-of-kin notifications.
Their autopsies are scheduled for tomorrow in Kalamazoo.
