Milford man killed in car vs bicycle crash on County Road 23 near New Paris

A bicyclist was killed in a crash with a car on County Road 23, just south of County Road 48.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, the collision happened around 5:35 p.m. on Tuesday, Sep. 30, when a southbound 2006 Honda Civic, driven by a 26-year-old Winona Lake man, struck the rear of a bicycle traveling in the same direction.

The bicyclist, identified as Lamar Stutzman, 38, of Milford, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured. Deputies said he has not been cited.

The crash remains under investigation by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Team.
