Pokagon Band enters agreement with state cannabis industry

The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi have entered into a compact with the Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency.

The deal grants the Pokagons access to Michigan’s licensed adult-use cannabis market. WSJM reports that this opens up a variety of opportunities to the band, including integration with the state’s seed-to-sale tracking system, transportation opportunities, and transactions with state licensees.

This will benefit the Rolling Embers retail store on tribal land in New Buffalo, opened in 2023, which has never enjoyed access to the state’s licensed channels. The Pokagon Band will share a percentage of its Cannabis Excise Tax with the state.
