Officer-involved shooting under investigation after stabbing in Mishawaka

An officer-involved shooting is under investigation following a reported stabbing in Mishawaka.

According to the Mishawaka Police Department, officers were dispatched around midnight on Thursday, Jan. 1, to a home in the 200 block of Gernhart Avenue for a report of a stabbing with the suspect still on scene. During the incident, an officer discharged their firearm.

Two individuals suffering from injuries were transported to the hospital. Their conditions were not immediately available. The officer involved was not physically injured.

As part of standard protocol, the investigation has been turned over to the St. Joseph County Police Department and the South Bend Police Department.
