Elkhart Mayor Roberson speaks out about teen shooting death

Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson expressed condolences after a 17-year-old was killed in a weekend officer-involved shooting.
It was just before 2 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8, when two officers fired their guns while investigating a suspicious vehicle at High Dive Park, injuring the teen passenger in the vehicle. They provided first aid at the scene, and despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced deceased.
Authorities recovered multiple handguns from inside and around the vehicle, along with the officers’ personal firearms. During the incident, one officer sustained a minor injury.
The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is investigating, and the case will be reviewed by the county prosecutor.
Mayor Roberson urged the public to let the investigation run its course and said results will be released as soon as possible.
