Two children killed, two seriously hurt in crash involving horse-drawn cart in Elkhart County

Two juveniles were killed and two others seriously injured in a crash involving a pickup truck and a horse-drawn cart on Friday morning, Feb. 20.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called around 8:05 a.m. to State Road 4 west of County Road 37.

Investigators say a westbound pickup truck struck the rear of a westbound horse-drawn cart carrying four juvenile passengers.

Two of the occupants were taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. The other passengers were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Elkhart County Crash Investigation Team is handling the investigation. Authorities say the incident remains under investigation and no additional information is being released at this time.
