South Haven man killed in crash on U.S. 31 in Miami County

A fatal crash in Miami County is under investigation by Indiana State Police.

Troopers say the crash happened around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the intersection of U.S. 31 and State Road 16.

Investigators say an 88-year-old Rochester man was driving a Lexus westbound on State Road 16 and was attempting to cross U.S. 31 when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle pulled into the path of a southbound Honda CR-V.

The Honda was driven by 79-year-old Joseph Wilhelm of South Haven, Michigan. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the Honda, a 78-year-old South Haven woman, was flown to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Lexus, and 88-year-old Rochester man, and his 85-year-old passenger were both taken by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
