The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents in tornado-affected areas to watch out for scams during cleanup.

Officials say homeowners should be cautious of unfamiliar contractors offering quick quotes or demanding money upfront.

If you have insurance, direct all contractors to your provider before any work begins.

Authorities say pushy sales tactics, requests for deposits or claims they’re “too busy to come back later” are major red flags.

The same warning applies to tree-removal crews offering discounted cash deals. Never allow work without permission and then feel pressured to pay.
