(Jon Zimney/95.3 MNC)

The City of South Bend has begun demolition of the long-vacant Qualex building on Louise Street due to safety concerns after a partial collapse.

The building has been empty for over a decade.

The project will cost about $365,000 and is expected to be done by July 4th to clear the way for redevelopment.
