A multi-agency human trafficking enforcement operation in Roseland led to the arrest of two men ON Thursday, April 23.
According to the Indiana State Police, the operation was conducted in partnership with the Roseland Police Department, Berrien County Sheriff’s Office, Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Police Department, and Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi Police Department.
Authorities said the effort was a “demand reduction” operation, targeting individuals seeking to purchase sexual services. Officials say these operations are designed to address the demand that can fuel human trafficking, exploitation, and related crimes.
Two men were arrested in separate incidents. Chad Alan Demis, 45, of Grovertown, and Oseas Luna, 43, of Elkhart, were both taken into custody on charges of soliciting a prostitute. Both were transported to the St. Joseph County Jail.
Law enforcement officials emphasized that human trafficking is not limited to large metropolitan areas. The South Bend region and Southwest Michigan sit along major travel corridors, making them vulnerable to trafficking and exploitation activity that can cross jurisdictional lines.
Authorities say they continue to monitor indicators of commercial sex activity, including online solicitation and trafficking-related conduct throughout the region.
Anyone who believes they may be a victim of human trafficking, or who has information about suspected activity, is urged to contact law enforcement. In emergencies, call 911.
