Trine University has built a new indoor athletic facility called the “Thunderdome,” giving student-athletes a place to train year-round.
The name comes from the film Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, where it refers to a competitive arena.
The nearly $8 million, 92,000-square-foot inflatable dome is climate-controlled and designed for use in all weather conditions.
It will serve multiple teams, including softball, baseball, men’s and women’s soccer, and men’s and women’s lacrosse.
Trine President-elect Tony Kline says the facility is intended to improve training conditions and support student-athlete development.
The university expects the dome to open within the next month.
