St. Joseph city commissioners have approved changes to this summer’s downtown paid parking plan after hearing concerns from local business owners.
The start date has been pushed back from June 1 to June 12, and paid parking hours will now end at 6 p.m. instead of 7. Restaurant owners told commissioners early June is still considered a slower season for downtown businesses.
WSJM says some commissioners questioned whether the program’s projected $180,000 in revenue is worth the backlash from residents and business owners.
Others said the city needs to move forward this summer to finally collect data on how the revised paid parking plan will work.
