A woman from Burns Harbor was killed in a head-on crash in LaPorte County.

According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, to State Road 39 south of County Road 1500 South for a two-vehicle crash.

Investigators say a red 2013 Hyundai Sonata was traveling north on State Road 39 when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound gray 2015 Jeep Wrangler.

The driver of the Hyundai, 41-year-old Sarah J. Geressy of Burns Harbor, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Jeep, a 23-year-old woman from LaPorte, suffered a lower body injury.

The crash remains under investigation. Toxicology results are pending.
