A Nappanee man accused of trying to kill his mother by setting their home on fire will have to wait longer for trial.

21-year-old Christopher Hochstetler faces attempted murder and attempted arson charges stemming from a November 2025 incident.

Police say Hochstetler admitted to using a lighter, toilet paper and logs in an effort to burn down the home while his mother was inside.

The Goshen News says she escaped after being awakened by a fire alarm. His jury trial has been rescheduled for October 19.
