The criminal charges against a former spokesperson for Justice for Michiana have been dropped, so a jury trial scheduled for Monday was canceled.

Court records say prosecutors filed a motion to dismiss late last week.

Vernado Malone Sr. had been subjected of a kidnapping investigation two years ago, according to investigators.

They say he posed as a domestic violence consultant to lure a woman and her baby from a hospital to his home in Hammond.

The woman escaped and called for help.
