A 68-year-old woman has died following a house fire in Niles.

Firefighters were called to the 200 block of North Seventh Street shortly before 3 o’clock Monday afternoon.

Niles Mayor Scott Clark confirmed the woman’s death and offered condolences to her family.

Four people were reportedly inside the home when the fire broke out. An Amazon delivery driver reportedly spotted a couch burning outside on the porch.

Several police agencies, including Michigan State Police, responded to the scene as authorities secured the area.

The fire was brought under control Monday afternoon. Investigators are working to determine what caused it.
