A new study suggests Michigan lake sturgeon may live for centuries, with some potentially reaching 300 or even 400 years old. 

Bride Michigan says researchers used 44 years of data from five Great Lakes populations to estimate their lifespans based on growth rates.

Previous estimates put sturgeon lifespans closer to 70 to 100 years.

The findings could influence how scientists study the fish and how managers approach conservation.
