Stabbing victim goes to St. Joseph County Jail for help

A man suffering from an apparent stab wound sought help at the St. Joseph County Jail.

St. Joseph County Police say the man began banging on the jail’s front lobby windows around 9:20 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21.

Jail personnel responded and provided medical aid after realizing he appeared to have been stabbed.

Investigators believe the stabbing happened near Hope Rescue Mission in the 400 block of South Lafayette Boulevard. The man then made his way to the jail for assistance.

An ambulance took him to the hospital. South Bend Police were called because the stabbing occurred within the city’s jurisdiction.

The incident remains under investigation.
