Elkhart Police are investigating a shooting outside a gas station that involved multiple people and left one man wounded.
Police say an officer on patrol heard gunfire around 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, and headed toward the area of Prairie Street and West Lusher Avenue. A woman later flagged down an officer near 245 W. Hively Ave., where police found evidence of a shooting in a parking lot.
During the investigation, officers learned that a 20-year-old man had arrived at a hospital with a gunshot wound. His injuries were not life-threatening.
Investigators believe several vehicles and multiple people were outside the gas station when gunfire broke out. Police say it appears multiple people fired shots during the incident.
The wounded man was treated and released from the hospital before being arrested on preliminary charges related to the investigation. He was taken to the Elkhart County Jail. The case will be forwarded to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office for review of formal charges.
No other injuries have been reported, and police said no additional arrests have been made.
