One person hurt in South Bend house fire

One person suffered significant burn injuries in a house fire on South Bend’s west side.

The South Bend Fire Department was called to a residential structure fire in the 1000 block of Lincoln Way West shortly before 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Firefighters found a small fire on the first floor of a two-story, multi-family residence. Crews quickly attacked the fire and had it under control within about 10 minutes.

One resident was found outside the home with serious burn injuries. The person was treated at the scene before being taken to a hospital. A second resident was also transported to the hospital for observation.

Four other residents escaped without injury and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
