American Airlines has launched three daily flights between South Bend International Airport and Chicago O’Hare.
The Chicago route had been handled by a luxury motorcoach.
It is now served by a 65-seat CRJ-700 regional jet with dual-class seating.
The inaugural flight arrived Monday afternoon and was welcomed with a water cannon salute from airport fire crews.
Passengers departing on the first flight to Chicago also received snacks and South Bend airport merchandise during a gate celebration.
