BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Indiana University says it’s increasing the speed of its research and education telecommunications network.

The school says bandwidth of the I-Light network will increase from ten gigabits per second to 100 gigabits per second. Indiana University’s Global Research Network Operations Center manages the I-Light network. The network connects member sites to state, national and international research and education networks.

IU says nearly every college and university in Indiana connects to the network, including IU, Purdue University and the University of Notre Dame.

Scientists at Earlham College usually have to wait a week to send data to Argonne National Laboratory outside Chicago. With the upgrade, IU officials say the data can be sent in a few hours.
