Indiana Excise Police arrest 179 at Little 500 weekend

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Indiana State Excise Police Officers arrested or cited 179 people during Little 500 weekend in the Bloomington area.

Police said Monday they arrested 149 minors, 29 adults, and 1 juvenile on a total of 347 charges including possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors. Other charges included having false identification cards, seatbelt violations and possession of controlled substances.

The weekend included events built around the Little 500 men’s and women’s bicycle races on the Indiana University campus.

The (Bloomington) Herald-Times reports many of the people arrested by various law enforcement agencies were eligible for dismissal of charges in exchange for paying a $428 fee, spending three hours picking up trash, taking a drug education class and staying out of trouble for a year.
