Deadline looms on Indiana private college police records bills, others

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Bills that would revive a stalled privatization deal for a banquet center at Indiana Dunes State Park and shelter private college police departments from many public records law requirements are among several awaiting decisions by Gov. Mike Pence.

The governor faces a Thursday deadline for action on bills approved during the legislative session that ended two weeks ago.

Other pending measures include ones establishing state regulation of daily fantasy sports companies and increasing Indiana’s medical malpractice damages cap for the first time since the 1990s.

Pence voice concerns this week about the private college police bill, saying he hasn’t decided whether to support the measure that was approved amid a court fight between the University of Notre Dame and ESPN over the school’s police records.
