ISTEP review with edits won't be discussed by State Board of Education

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana Board of Education has passed on a chance to discuss an outside review of the state’s troubled standardized student exam.

The board’s agenda Wednesday included the review it commissioned last year on the validity of the 2015 ISTEP exam. However, the report didn’t come up for discussion during the daylong meeting. The report has been touted as independent.

It was the first meeting since The Associated Press uncovered edits to a summary of the report by a state administrator hired by the board. He altered passages that reflected negatively on Gov. Mike Pence and GOP lawmakers’ decision to change the test after dropping national Common Core standards.

Vice chairwoman Sarah O’Brien said she didn’t have concerns about the report since there were no changes in the validity study.
