Elementary school principal killed, two children injured in school bus crash in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Authorities say an Indianapolis elementary school principal was killed and two of her students were seriously injured when a bus suddenly lurched forward and struck them in front of a school.

They say Susan Jordan, the principal of Amy Beverland Elementary School on the city’s far northeast side, was killed Tuesday.

Lawrence Township Schools Superintendent Shawn Smith says the district “lost a great educator.”

Indianapolis Fire Department Capt. Rita Reith (ryt) says the bus went over a curb and struck Jordan and two 10-year-old children. She says the children were hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Reith says the bus driver and 25 students on the bus weren’t injured.

Reith says buses were lined up outside the school when the accident happened. She said the driver was being interviewed.
