INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Amos C. Brown III, a longtime Indianapolis radio broadcaster and community activist, has died at age 64.

Brown’s sister, Oveda Brown, said her brother died Friday at his family’s home in Chicago.

Radio One Indianapolis Vice President and General Manager Chuck Williams said Brown collapsed from an apparent heart attack.

Brown hosted a talk show on WTLC. He was a member of Indiana’s Broadcasters Hall of Fame and wrote a column called “Just Tellin’ It” for the Indianapolis Recorder. The newspaper’s president, Shannon Williams, released a statement calling Brown “a champion for equality and justice.”

U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly says Brown was a “once-in-a-generation community leader.”

Indianapolis Mayor-Elect Joe Hogsett says he was “a pioneer of journalism” and “a voice for the voiceless.”

Funeral arrangements are pending.
