Woman thought sound of plane hitting her Fort Wayne home was dog's mischief

(NOT SAME PLANE AS SHOWN)

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — A Fort Wayne woman says she initially thought the sound of a small plane crashing into the corner of her home was one of her dogs knocking something over.

Deb Moran tells The Journal Gazette she was asleep on the couch early Saturday when she heard a thud. She says she turned on the lights to find the mess she thought her dogs had made, and she opened the backdoor to let them out and saw the shape of a plane in the darkness.

Indiana State Police have said the single-engine plane ended up upside down in a home’s backyard near Smith Field Airport. One person on the plane had minor injuries, and police say a second person believed to be on the plane fled the scene.

Moran says her house was fully functioning when she returned Saturday afternoon.
