A South Bend man accused of taking his former girlfriend’s granddaughter without permission was found not guilty of criminal confinement.

A jury acquitted 61-year-old Charles Jackson on Tuesday, June 7, according to online court records.

Jackson took the 4-year-old girl from her father’s South Bend home in the 400 block of Kentucky Street on Sept. 24 following a fight with the girl’s grandmother, police said at the time. He brought the girl back home about four hours later and was immediately arrested.

Jackson was originally charged with kidnapping, but the charge was changed to criminal confinement in March 2016.
