Marqwan Beserra sentenced to 60 years in prison for deadly June 2015 shooting

A 19-year-old South Bend man was sentenced to 60 years in prison for a deadly South Bend shooting that happened in June 2015.

Marqwan Beserra received nearly the maximum sentence Friday, May 20, for the murder charge he was convicted of in April.

Prosecutors said Beserra shot Jerry Wright several times in the 2400 block of Frederickson Street in South Bend on June 9, 2015. The two were arguing inside a home and eventually took their discussion outside, where the shooting happened.

Multiple witnesses identified Beserra as the shooter. He was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Georgia in September.
