Former South Bend cop sentenced to probation for civil rights violation

A former South Bend Police officer who pleaded guilty to punching a handcuffed man at the St. Joseph County Jail in 2010 was sentenced to a year of probation.

Theodore Robert must spend eight months of his probation on home detention, our news partners ABC 57 reported.

He pleaded guilty in February to a charge of depriving a person of civil rights while acting under the color of law.

Robert apologized during the sentencing hearing on Thursday, May 19, and said he took responsibility for his actions.
