The Mishawaka City Council gave the green light to the purchase of Juday Creek Golf Course and nearby farmland with the intention of using part of the land to build a new wellfield.
The city will pay $3 million to buy the golf course and about 44 acres of nearby farmland, the South Bend Tribune reported. The owners of the golf course in turned agreed to a 30-year lease with the city for more than $20,000 per year.
As part of the plan, the city will build a “Veterans Parkway” road north from Douglas Road which would lead to the new wellfield and a pumping station, which won’t be built until 2021. The road may eventually extend to Cleveland Road.
In total, the plan is expected to cost about $45 million.
