A man has been charged with felony murder in connection with the death of a U.S. soldier who served in Afghanistan and whose body was found lying in the area of Sorin and Arthur Streets in South Bend back in mid-January.

Jabreeh Cash Davis-Martin,23, was charged with the murder of Jodie Henderson, 27. Davis-Martin struck Henderson with a piece of furniture after he learned that Henderson had feelings for him, according to St. Joseph County Prosecutor Ken Cotter.

After Davis-Martin attacked Henderson, he attended a house party where he told other people what he had done, Cotter stated.

He left the party, then encountered Henderson again and began stomping and striking him several more times until others who were with him stopped him, Cotter stated.

A neighbor found Henderson dead in the street several hours after the attack.

The county coroner ruled that he died primarily of multiple blunt-force and chop injuries. Possible contributing factors included alcohol intoxication and exposure to the cold.

Henderson served in the Army National Guard.
