South Bend robbery suspect hit store clerk with tire iron, police say

A man accused of hitting a store clerk with a tire iron during a robbery on Monday afternoon, Feb. 1, hasn’t been arrested and police are asking for the public’s help in finding him.

The suspect is described as a tall white man likely in his early 20s, according to our news partners at ABC 57.

The man was speaking with the clerk at the Mini Mart in the 1800 block of Prairie Avenue in South Bend when he pulled a tire iron out of his waistband and hit the clerk while demanding cash, ABC 57 reported.

The clerk’s hand was cut while he attempted to block the strike.

The suspect drove away from the scene in a red minivan.
