One person dead after crash at C.R. 6 and C.R. 17 near Elkhart on Tuesday morning

One person is dead after a two-vehicle crash at C.R. 6 and C.R. 17 in Elkhart County on Tuesday morning, Dec. 22.

The crash happened at about 5:30 a.m., according to our news partners ABC 57.

A car facing north on C.R. 17 turned left onto C.R. 6 into the path of a pickup truck and the two vehicles collided, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department. The car was pushed into a ditch near the intersection.

A passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The car’s driver was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with a wrist injury.

The driver of the truck, a 20-year-old man from Edwardsburg, Mich., was not injured.

The two people in the car have not yet been identified by police.

The intersection was closed for several hours while police investigate the crash.
